BONNIE ODA
HOMSEY (Artistic Director),
attended The Juilliard School originating works by Antony Tudor, Anna Sokolow, Jennifer Muller, and performing dances directed by José Limón and Martha Graham. She performed with Ethel Winter, Hawaii Opera Guild, University of Hawaii Dance Theatre, Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company, and the Martha Graham Dance Company. She established Los Angeles Dance Theatre in 1978 and co-founded American Repertory Dance Company which toured venues including American Dance Festival, Dance Aspen, Kennedy Center, and World Dance Alliance Festival. Bonnie received a B.A. from University of Hawaii, and MFA from University of California, Irvine. She has taught and lectured extensively, produced dance events, and been published in journals and books. Her projects were funded by California Arts Council, National College Choreography Initiative, Weingart Foundation, Dwight Stuart Youth Foundation, and L.A. County Arts Commission among others. Her arts education programs benefited over 40,000 students and teachers in Southern California, Nevada and Louisiana. She is Chair of Dance and Arts Advisory member of The Princess Grace Foundation that awards grants to emerging talent, and has served on panels for National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, Dance Heritage Coalition Research Group, and Leadership Group for the National Initiative for the Preservation of American Dance/UCLA Dance/Media project. Honors include "Outstanding Young Woman of America" nomination, three Lester Horton awards, and features on CNN's "All about Women," American Masters documentary on Juilliard, and "A Passion for Dance" documentary by Sylvia Goulden.
